• active — works normally: can activate machines and check out (re-sign).
• suspended — temporary hold. Blocks new activations and locks running clients on their next online check-out. Reversible; use for payment failures or disputes.
• expired — past its term. Same lock as suspended. Normally set automatically by the daily expiry sweep when the date passes — choose it here to force expiry early.
• banned — permanent revocation for cause (fraud, abuse). Same lock as suspended, but signals the license is not coming back.

Anything other than active fails closed; set back to active to restore — reactivating also clears the reseat cooldown automatically, so a returning customer can re-bind their machine right away. Reset cooldown does the same on demand (e.g. for a license that is already active).
